What is PAD?
17 million Americans have PAD*
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is a life-threatening condition in which a hard, fatty material called plaque builds up on the inside walls of the blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to legs and arms. The build-up of plaque causes the arteries to lose flexibility and narrow – a condition known as atherosclerosis – reducing blood flow to the legs and feet.
PAD can cause claudication; heavy, tired or painful legs and feet. If allowed to progress, PAD can lead to a severe lack of blood flow in the legs or feet leading to ulcers or sores that don’t heal which may result in amputation of the leg.
